An Evening with Sean Conboy and Jonathan Beer!

February the 1st From James Bond to the Queen's Stamps: An evening with Sean Conboy and Jonathan Beer.

Architectural and interior specialist, and professional air miles collector, Sean Conboy had a varied and rewarding 2016, with commissions regularly taking him across the globe and away from his home town of Blackpool. Highlights included photographing a floating hotel in Gibraltar, the new pool terrace at the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, a luxury resort on a remote island in The Bahamas, throwing paint over a brand new Jaguar and filming dawn footage of London from James Bond's helicopter!

Sean blends cutting edge technology and techniques with an 'old school' foundation. Combined with his business sense and down to Earth attitude you're bound to come away both inspired and more knowledgeable.

Meanwhile still-liferJonathan Beer had an equally busy and manic 2016 with commissions taking him away from his home town of Manchester from one windowless studio to another. In between contemplating the glamour of still-life photography Jonathan recently had the opportunity to work on a truly once in a lifetime job when he was commissioned to photograph the 2016 Royal Mail Christmas stamps. Jonathan will be taking us through the whole process, from the initial commission, NDAs and the dreaded quote. To test shoots, more test shoots, proper shoots and post production.

Like Sean, Jonathan also has an interesting mix of modern and traditional techniques, giving him creative flexibility while maintaining clinical technical quality. This is a rare chance to go behind the scenes from start to finish of a high profile commercial commission, and one not to be missed.

Annual General Meeting and Photo Critique!

The print critique from this years awards took & was the perfect opportunity to come and hear from our judges why they selected the winners they did and learn how to improve your images if things didn't quite work out as you had hoped.

We then held the Annual General Meeting. This was an opportunity to have your say in how the region is run. A new Chairman in Ioan Said was elected and two new members were added to the committee: Phil Melia and Sara Porter.

Award-Winning Photography: A Judge's Perspective

International Photography judge and educator Martin Grahame-Dunn will be talking about his experience as a judge and providing great insight to help you be more successful when entering awards.

A night you won't want to miss, specially with the annual awards just around the corner!

A word from Martin:

I am so looking forward to visiting your region at the end of January to deliver a programme that has evolved over several years particularly as the criteria for award winning images has equally evolved. In August of 2015 I delivered a series of intensive workshops for aspiring and current judges of the the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photography) that dealt with not only methods of adjudication but also the thorny issues of ethics. This programme was mandatory for all AIPP Judges and Chairmen. Extracting key points from this I will endeavour to shed light on ‘best practices’ worldwide. In December of 2015 I delivered a refined workshop entitled ‘Creating Better Images’ in Dubai for HIPA (The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award) of which I continue to be their worldwide Ambassador. This workshop concentrated on the essential elements of award winning photography - indeed, a roadmap for success. I shall also extract the best of this programme to deliver an informative blend for the BIPP Northwest Region.

----

Martin has been in the industry for the best part of 36 years covering many aspects of Professional Photography including Industrial, Commercial, Automotive, Advertising, Fashion, Editorial, Wedding Photography & Portraiture. Over almost the entire period of his professional career he have been actively engaged in the worldwide training of photographers covering every major discipline and am therefore, a highly respected trainer and judge with so many Professional Organisations as well as many of the worlds leading representative bodies. He has been personally responsible for the development of qualifications, distinctions and competition systems in a number of countries. His education and training programs have been extremely successful worldwide. He is a creative and strategic thinker, natural leader who can develop, articulate, and deliver artistic vision through the smooth implementation of project management. An excellent communicator with presentational and media skills, who can link a passion for the genre of photography to customer focus and development of high quality products.

From Stills to Video using the same camera : 25th November

Ian started exploring the world of DSLR video about two years ago. It was the start of an extremely steep learning curve. Shooting moving images is a totally different ‘mind set’. Once you have the images you then need to learn all about editing and sound.

Ian is still at the beginning of his ‘movie’ career and is not an expert, however he will talk about everything he has learned in order to pass the knowledge on to you. He will talk about cameras, editing, sound and bringing it all together, he will also be showing some of his mini movies.

The BIPP's North West Region are excited to welcome Adrian Dewey for our next event in the region!

The morning will consist of a 4 hour boudoir and natural light workshop in a sumptuous hotel room at the ABode with the lovely Jade Wallis as our model.

Jade is also a photographer herself so understands modelling and photography from both sides of the camera. Jade is a tattooed model and will be working up to art nude.

In the session Adrian will look at the different ways to use an interior space like a bedroom, from studio style lighting, continuous lighting and available light from lamps etc, as well as using natural window light. He will show the best ways to pose a model and how to get the best out of the subject.

There will also be chance for all delegates to have plenty of shooting time and Adrian will be able to give tips on photoshop and workflow processes.

Adrian is a well known fashion and glamour photographer, being shortlisted in 2014 for Professional Photographer magazine Fashion photographer of the year, as well as writing articles for Digital Photographer and being widely published in many publications

This is a great opportunity for photographers in the BIPP’s North West region as it comes at a greatly discounted price from Adrian’s usual seminars!

ONLY 6 PLACES AVAILABLE so NO at the door sales!

The evening will also feature a presentation where Adrian will discuss his work and talk about his experience as a Glamour and Fashion Photographer, giving members and non-members valuable insight.
